The
Assessor’s Office is responsible for maintaining and estimated
market value and classification of all taxable real and personal
property in the County for property tax purposes. Every 6th
year the office also values all of the tax exempt properties
in the County. Values
and classifications of properties are established as of January
2 of each year. Notices are mailed to each property owner in
the spring of each year advising the owner of the current property
value and classification as well as the process to appeal if
the owner disagrees.The
23 jurisdictions in Grant County hire their own “local
assessor” who is an independent contractor. Contact our

Property Tax Exemption.
The Assessor’s Office also conducts property tax splits,
property ownership splits and combinations, transfer of ownership
on tax records, maintains the property descriptions, taxpayer
addresses and property addresses, calculates estimate of property
taxes, process all Certificates of Real Estate Values, and houses
previous years estimates of value.
The administration
of accounting functions such as processing payroll, providing
receipts for miscellaneous collections and processing checks
for payment for most county transactions. Maintains a financial
system for balancing with county treasurer. Maintains the county
ditch records, ledger and assessments. Chief county election
official to maintain voter registration, prepare ballots, distribute
election supplies, hold election training, administer absentee
voting requests and procedures, receive and tally election results
and file with Secretary of State after conducting canvassing
of election results. Schedules Board of Commissioners Meetings
& Hearings and maintains minutes. Assists with county budgets
and tax levy. Also gathers tax levies from other units of government
for calculation of real estate taxes & special assessments.
Prepares tax settlements for distribution. Collects delinquent
taxes, processes tax forfeitures, and confessions of judgments.
Tax increment certification and preparation. Completion and
submission of a variety of forms & reports required by state
agencies. Sign transfer deeds & mortgages before they are
filed with recorder.
Motor
vehicle registration, renewals, out of state vehicles and transfers
of ownership. Drivers license applications, renewals, duplicates
and identification cards. DNR recreational vehicles involving
the licensing and transfer of ownership and tiling of vehicles
if required ( watercraft).
Cash
management of all county funds to include investment of
excess funds and monitoring of collateral. Annually mails
6200+ Real Estate and Truth in Taxation Statements. Collection
of all Real Estate, Personal Property, Mobile Home, Powerline,
State Deed and Mortgage Taxes. Special Agent for Game and
Fish Licensing. Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts.
Signs and mails all county warrants for payment of payroll
and debt incurred by the county for goods and services.

Treasurer's Office retains historical Birth and Death record
information in addition to the issuance of birth and death
